Where It All Began
Hillcrest School was born from the dream of a Honduran family who, after completing their studies abroad in languages such as English, French, and German, returned home with a deep desire to serve their country through education. With a vision rooted in faith, love, and a strong sense of purpose, they set out to establish a bilingual school that would make a difference.
The name “Hillcrest” was chosen as a tribute to the beautiful city of Tegucigalpa, known for its steep hills and winding streets. These hills became a symbol of the climb toward something greater—not just in elevation, but in learning, values, and human growth. The school started small, with only a preschool level, but with great determination and a strong work ethic, it began to grow year by year.
In those early days, everyone pitched in. The founders were teachers, drivers, builders, and caretakers all at once. Classrooms were decorated by hand, lessons were typed with care, and materials were prepared using simple tools and a great deal of heart.
Throughout the years, Hillcrest School has remained committed to its mission: to provide an excellent bilingual education rooted in values and made accessible to more families. With dedication and effort, we have opened doors for many students who otherwise might not have had access to this type of opportunity.
Many of our graduates have gone on to become leaders, educators, and professionals who make a positive impact in Honduras and beyond. Some have even returned to lead bilingual schools of their own, carrying forward the same spirit of service and excellence.
Today, nearly fifty years later, Hillcrest School continues to stand on those same values. We are still guided by faith, still passionate about learning, and still driven by the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, dream, and succeed.
